Tindahan POS retail point of sale and inventory desktop app

01 / Overview

Behind the interface.

A local first point of sale and inventory system for Philippine grocery operations, packaged as a native Windows application. A Tauri shell written in Rust launches a trimmed Java runtime running a headless Spring Boot service on localhost, hosts the React and TypeScript till in WebView2, and keeps every record in a single SQLite file managed by twenty two Flyway migrations.

02 / Implementation

What makes it work.

  1. Twenty vertical feature modules behind twenty one REST controllers and sixty six endpoints, over twenty five tables plus an append only audit journal with full text search.

  2. BIR aware receipting with official receipt numbering, VAT inclusive pricing and Senior and PWD exemptions, alongside FEFO batch inventory and cash drawer sessions.

  3. Thirty four permission codes resolved per request and enforced by thirty seven method level checks, over stateless JWT sessions and BCrypt hashed staff PINs.

  4. The installer bundles the service as a jlink trimmed thirty three module runtime, so an installed copy needs no Java, Node or Rust on the target machine.

  5. The Rust shell puts the JVM in a Windows job object with KILL_ON_JOB_CLOSE so an orphaned service can never hold the port, and attaches to a running instance instead of racing it.
